About the Artist:
Camilla Webster is an emerging contemporary artist best known for her paintings that highlight the beauty of the ocean and environs around South Florida with a modern abstracted approach.
After a successful Art Basel Miami week debut at The Edition Hotel penthouse sponsored by Sotheby’s One with over two hundred in attendance, Webster was asked to create two large works for The Deering Estate’s, Miami Designer Show House. Interior designer Elizabeth Ghia hung “The Grand Salon” in the spring of 2018 and Webster’s paintings were featured as a highlight of the 17 room experience on TV and news media.
For one famous designer who purchased a Webster for her new Palm Beach home this spring, Webster’s “Seagrapes in the Moonlight” is an eye catching feature of the entertaining sitting room. It is the only work by a living artist not curated and purchased by Wally Findlay gallery at the residence.
Spending a year following Webster’s work and visiting her studio, art patron Tanya Brillembourg chose Webster’s portraits and abstracts for her breakout move to represent women artists in the summer show “The Power of Her” at IdeoBox in Wynwood in Miami. Webster is one of the only American artists ever exhibited at this very respected Latin American institution and was in good company, sharing the limelight with museum collected artist and sculptor Maria Cristina Carbonell. Brillembourg continues to work on projects with Webster through the Miami’s fall / winter art season.
A joint show with legendary Florida Keys artist Pasta Pantaleo opens in January 2019 at the main gallery at Ocean Reef the esteemed Ocean Reef Art League. Webster will also be featured in a full page in The Scout Guide Miami in 2019.
Prior to her time in Miami and Ocean Reef in the Florida Keys, where she is inspired by the light, Webster was a member of the Mana Contemporary community. In New York, Webster shared a studio floor with Doug Argue, Stanley Casselman, Carole Feuerman and others. She also studied with famed colorfield abstract painter Pat Lipsky at The Art Students League as well as The Slade School of Fine Art in London.
She is also an award winning writer and the combination of these talents adds to her ability to express complex ideas and knit together interesting stories within her work that touch the soul. This was captured in her TED Talk “Art in Front of You” in 2014 which focuses on the art of calming down.
Interested in the social and global issues of the day, Webster is a member of POW, Professional Organization of Women in the Arts, NEXUS, New York Women in Film and Television and The Helena Group. American and British, she holds a joint honors MA and BA in History of Art and Modern History from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland
